Sammy J is bidding farewell to his weekly ABC TV show after five years, 200 episodes and multiple awards with a massive national tour that hits the stage in Newcastle tonight.
The Sammy J – Good Hustle show features 15 of Sammy’s most loved characters.
Characters like The Government Coach, SJ Paterson and Hookturnistan make an appearance and there’s even a cameo from the current Prime Minister!
“I’ve worked with politicians from all sides over the last five years, I’ve invited them to take part in the sketches and some were more willing than others,” Sammy told Bonnie on a recent episode of The Good Stuff.
“Because I’d had Anthony Albanese on the show maybe five years go, when he was just in opposition and had heaps of time on his hands, I was able to say – Hey, remember how I helped you with your profile, maybe you want to help me out with this.”
Sammy’s contribution to the Australian comedy scene cannot be overstated. His political satire, musical abilities and masterful wordplay have made him one of Australia’s most surprising talents.
He’s won numerous awards, including Best Comedy at the AACTA Awards and a Best Comedy Release nomination at the ARIA Awards.
And while we’re all a little sad that his weekly ABC TV show is coming to an end, this farewell tour is a great way to say goodbye and celebrate the amazing work he’s produced over the last five years.
The Sammy J – Good Hustle show hits the stage at the Civic Theatre Newcastle tonight, 11 May 2023. For more information and tickets visit civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
