Original members of GLAM GODS will reunite for a benefit gig on Sunday 19 June at The Croatia Club. ArchieFest has been organised to raise much-needed funds for the family of Robert ‘Archie’ Archbold, a local music identity who passed away unexpectedly late last month.
‘Archie’ is remembered as one of Newcastle’s most passionate local music supporters. Having roadied for Sparx, Freak $hop and Jakyl he also performed as executioner and snake-wrangler with Nightmare: The Alice Cooper Tribute Show.
Newcastle Live spoke exclusively to GLAM GODS lead singer, Damien Hades.
“Archie been hassling for a GLAM GODS reunion for the last few years. And now his wish has been granted…posthumously”.
“The GLAM GODS were the right band at the right time,which may never be repeated. In a time when most musos had disappeared up their own arses trying to be “artistes” and “real musicians” we were about fun. We were loud and sexy and so far over the top. We created a glamtastic spectacle…our shows were a celebration of rock’n’roll rebellion, and we attracted an equally debauched bunch of miscreants and misfits who adored us…Worshipped us…We lovingly dubbed The CRAZEES, and we fed off each other. The wilder we got, the wilder they got. I was The Master of Ceremonies and Archie was The CRAZEE’S ring leader…GODS BLESS ARCHIE…and you can quote me on that. Rock Hard !!!” Damien told us.
The band fostered a passionate fan base in Newcastle, playing the popular venues of the day including The Castle, The Jolly Roger and The Cambridge Hotel. Original members; Damien Hades, Jehova St Andrew, Tommy Doubter and regular accomplice Rudolph Schwarz will all appear at the benefit.
The band will be joined by Cyd from Freak $hop, Kitty Kozmic from GLAM SLAM and extra special guests Mark Tinson and Philip Oswald Screen from pioneering Aussie Glamsters RABBIT and Les Hall from the iconic TMG (Ted Mulry Gang).
The gig, running from 12 Noon till 7:00pm(ish), promises to be a fittingly spectacular celebration of Archie’s life and love of the local music scene. The GLAM GODS will be joined on the day by a plethora of Newcastle musos paying their respects and hoping to attract a generous crowd to help support Archie’s wife Shantel and their three children through this difficult time.
