Dancing, lights, projection and giant illuminated puppetry will tell the indigenous story of Throsby Creek next month as part of a very special theatrical collaboration.

The production, Gimbay Gatigaan, is the work of Curious Legends and the Newcastle Worimi Community and was originally commissioned by Newcastle City Council for the New Annual Festival in 2021.

“We wanted to create something really special,” Mitchell Reese, Curious Legends Artistic Director, said.

“Covid has pushed everything back.”

The performance will take place in the Carrington Parklands over three nights in March and promises an opportunity to see the land in ways you’ve never imagined before and provide an evening under the stars you won’t forget.

“Think outdoor performance with breathtaking Aboriginal dancing and ancient stories,” Mitchell said.

“In our studio, weโ€™re currently building an eight-metre long Stingray, and three-metre wide Mudcrab for the show – we canโ€™t wait to share them with you!”

There’ll be a traditional smoking ceremony held each night and local food trucks will provide plenty of yummy treats for attendees.

The Gimbal Gatigaan production will take over Carrington Parklands on March 3, 4, & 5th 2022. The smoking ceremony and welcome will begin at 7:30 pm with the show kicking off at 8 pm. Tickets are free but registration is essential and can be made by visiting trybooking.com
