Australian music icon Ella Hooper is heading to Newcastle this October, bringing her Overnight Success Tour to the Stag & Hunter in support of her upcoming fourth solo album and newly released single, When The Shit Went Down.

Set for release on 2 October, Overnight Success marks a bold new chapter for the former Killing Heidi frontwoman, further embracing the Americana and country influences that have shaped her recent work.

Announced alongside the heartfelt new single When The Shit Went Down, the album blends glossy twang, warm melodies and deeply personal songwriting, with much of the record created and recorded in Nashville.

The new single draws on real-life family experiences, pairing emotional honesty with Ella’s unmistakable vocals and a rich Americana sound.

Produced by Australian-born, Nashville-based producer LOLLIES, the track was recorded with some of the city’s most respected musicians and captures the raw-but-beautiful aesthetic Ella describes as “shitty shimmer”.

Across its 11 tracks, Overnight Success showcases Ella’s evolution as a songwriter, moving effortlessly between country, alt-pop and Americana.

From upbeat, whiskey-soaked anthems and bluegrass-inspired moments to intimate ballads and reflective storytelling, the album explores vulnerability, resilience and self-discovery while retaining the wit and authenticity that have defined her career.

Few Australian artists have enjoyed a career as enduring as Ella Hooper’s. After exploding onto the scene with Killing Heidi’s breakout hit Weir and the chart-topping album Reflector, she became the youngest-ever recipient of APRA’s Songwriter of the Year award before forging a successful solo career spanning folk, rock, country and Americana.

Her 2023 album Small Town Temple debuted at number one on the Australian Country chart, and the upcoming tour promises to bring her latest collection of songs to life with a seasoned live band and a performance that blends intimate storytelling with a celebratory atmosphere.

Ella Hooper’s Overnight Success Tour, supported by Ruby Mae, stops at the Stag & Hunter in Newcastle on Thursday, 8 October. Her new single When The Shit Went Down is out now, with Overnight Success released on Friday, 2 October. Tickets for the Newcastle show are on sale now via ellahooper.com.
