Newcastle’s Romy Church, AKA e4444e {pron. e4}, will take to the backyard stage at Jams in Union street as part of the West Best Bloc Fest this Sunday with a set list dominated by tracks from his new album, I Spend All Day Drawing A Circle.
The eleven tracks on the new album, which was released today ahead of his appearance at this Sunday’s festival, are packed with more experimental and expansive compositions than we’ve ever heard from Church.
While the local artist has become renowned for testing the limits of live performance, this is perhaps the first studio release that truly captures his boundless expression.
“The album name comes from a short story I wrote about a dejected person who sheds most of his stuff and spends his time drawing circles with charcoal on paper,” Church said.
“I think that is how I felt making these recordings, they felt simultaneously like the least and most important thing in the world. Itโs a clichรฉ, but I think this music helped me a lot, it’s still helping me.”
This Saturday, 1 October, Franky’s Noodles in Carrington will play host to an I Spend All Day Drawing A Circle album listening party before e4444e hits the stage at West Best Bloc Fest on Sunday 2 October. Tickets for Sunday’s festival are salvable through trybooking.com.
