As someone who has worked for many people, doing many things, especially in the hospitality and retail sector, I know firsthand what it’s like to be burned out by the masses. To get up and go to work and spend three-quarters of the day wishing and longing for a sense of purpose, a chance to give something back, and do something good for once. I then spend the other quarter being yelled at by customers about returns and waiting ever patiently for my favourite saying “I’m never coming here again”. The bottom line is though, we all need to work, we all need dollerdoos in our pocket, but the way we go about that can give us that spring in our step, to have us bouncing out of bed and heading off to work. Sound like your jam? You’re in luck, the good folks at Hireup are heading to the Edwards this Tuesday to offer you that very alternative and give you the chance to do something you love, whilst helping someone who needs it most. Here are some FAQs we at Newcastle Live had and thought we would share what we learned to get you started.
So what is Hireup?
Hireup is an online platform which connects people with a disability to support workers. But, this isn’t about just any support worker/client relationship. Hireup is all about focusing on fostering and finding connection based on mutual interests, hobbies and passions. The carer/client relationship is the most important thing to the folks at Hireup, purely because it’s the most important thing to you and to the people who need it most. It’s about a network of people, working together to provide support in a way that suits the person who actually requested the support.
Ok, kewl, so what’s the 411, what’s the process, say more things?
First things first, jump onto hireup.com.au and build a profile. Spend some time on the about me section as this is really the crux of what Hireup is all about. Whether you’re signing up as a support worker, or someone who needs a bit of support, the more detail you can put in this section the better. Love music? That’s awesome! Put it in the about me section. All the things that make you, so uniquely you, is probably going to match up with someone who would actually love to spend some time doing those things too.
I don’t have any experience ah help me?
Hireup isn’t exclusively based on professional qualifications or experience on paper, it’s about what you as an individual can offer and clients need a whole range of skillsets which cover industry newbies and career professionals. Some people just need a little bit of help around the house, others are looking for some help with personal transport, but at the end of the day, it’s the quality of the company and support you can provide that really counts.
But I can’t commit to full-time work
One of the best things about Hireup is that you, as the support worker, set your own hours. It’s pretty much as simple as that. When you set up your profile, you set your availability and you’ll only receive messages and shift offers that fit in with your schedule.
