Disney On Ice presents Find Your Hero will take over Newcastle Entertainment Centre this July with an energetic celebration of courage, connection, and classic characters.

The production promises to be an absolute crowd-pleaser with high-flying stunts, dazzling skating, and emotional storytelling, all backed by a beloved Disney soundtrack.

From Mickey and Minnie to Mirabel, Moana, Elsa, Ariel, and Rapunzel, the show blends modern fan favourites with timeless icons. But what really sets Find Your Hero apart is its heartbeat, the performers.

Among the cast are the real-life couple of Ida Sjölin from Sweden and Quentin Lourenco-Aubry from France. For them, their on-ice chemistry is more than just performance; it’s personal.

“I saw Disney On Ice when I was four and told my mum, ‘That’s what I want to do,’” Ida told Newcastle Live.

“I never wanted to compete, I just wanted to skate with Disney. And now, here I am.”

A HERO’S JOURNEY FOR ALL AGES

Audiences can expect a whirlwind tour through six Disney tales: The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Frozen, Tangled, Moana, and Encanto, which is making its Australian debut on ice.

During our interview, Quentin tells us that one of the most jaw-dropping moments of the show comes from Ariel’s aerial acrobatics during a Spanish web routine, performed 30 feet above the ice.

“It’s impressive to watch,” Quentin said.

“There’s a real ‘wow’ factor.”

But spectacle isn’t everything. Both performers emphasise the emotional impact of their roles.

“We’re not just skating, we’re telling a story. The acting and the connection with the audience – that’s what makes this different from competition skating. We get to make kids smile, and sometimes it’s the first live show they’ve ever seen.”

REAL MAGIC ON AND OFF THE ICE

As a couple both on and off stage, Ida and Quentin have a bond that shows up in their performance—and in their pre-show rituals.

“We always do a little handshake and a kiss before we go on,” Ida said with a smile.

“It helps centre us.”

“We met through the show, and now we travel the world together doing what we love,” Quentin added.

That includes soaking up Aussie culture while on tour.

“We haven’t seen a koala yet,” laughed Sjölin.

“It’s on our bucket list—along with kangaroos.”

BEHIND THE SEQUINS

While the spotlight is on the characters, the performers’ backgrounds are just as compelling. Ida has a degree in musical theatre and even runs her own production company, VIS Productions. Quentin, who won first place at the French Championships, dreams of coaching skating when his performance career winds down. Between shows, he’s often behind the scenes cooking up meals at the venue.

“I think I’m a pretty good cook,” he said.

Both agree that seeing the audience—especially the kids—light up makes all the hard work worth it.

“They come dressed as Mirabel, Elsa, Rapunzel… They sing along, they laugh. We try to give them a moment they’ll never forget,” Ida said.

“It might be their only chance to see a Disney character live. So we give it everything we’ve got,” added Quentin.
