The Queen of British comedy, Dawn French is headed to Newcastle in 2024 with her one-woman stand-up show, Dawn French is a Huge Twat.
After selling out 38 shows across the country during her 2016 tour, comedy fans across the Hunter will have their fingers on the book now button when tickets go on sale next week.
“This show is so named because unfortunately, it’s horribly accurate,” French said.
“There have been far too many times I have made stupid mistakes or misunderstood something vital or jumped the gun in a spectacular display of twattery.
“I thought I might tell some of these buttock-clenching embarrassing stories to give Australian audiences a peek behind the scenes of my work life.”
Dawn holds a special place in the hearts of Australians. Her partnership with Jennifer Saunders in the groundbreaking comedy duo French & Saunders during the ’80s and ’90s was a massive hit and paved the way for a new era of TV comedy, where they expertly parodied everything from Oasis to the Kardashian.
In the ’90s, French ventured onto her own path of success with standout roles, including the dark comedy series Murder Most Horrid, where she often played both murderer and victim in the same episode. Her portrayal of Geraldine Granger in the beloved Richard Curtis series The Vicar Of Dibley captured the hearts of over 12 million viewers during its series finale.
Beyond her achievements on the screen, Dawn French has left an indelible mark on the stage, excelling as both a stand-up comedian and actress. Her big-screen appearances, from Coraline to Death On The Nile, have further solidified her status as a versatile and beloved entertainer.
Dawn French is a Huge Twat will hit the stage at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle on 19 April 2024. Tickets for the tour will go on sale Thursday, September 28 at 12pm with a special Live Nation and Ticketmaster Venue presale running from 11am Monday, 25 September to 11am Thursday, 28 September.
