Novocastrians will get the chance to take the plunge into pitch-black suspense this September when DARKFIELD’s internationally acclaimed multi-sensory experiences roll into Wheeler Place as part of the 2025 New Annual festival.
Housed inside specially designed shipping containers, each DARKFIELD experience uses complete darkness and 360-degree audio to create hyper-realistic worlds that blur the line between perception and reality.
The first of those experiences, SÉANCE sees participants drawn into an unsettling sonic performance that plays with persuasion and suggestion. The second experience, FLIGHT, propels audiences through two parallel realities inspired by the many-worlds theory of quantum mechanics — where every decision leads to a different outcome.
“The productions are ideal for anyone who loves the thrill of multisensory entertainment and immersing themselves in the unknown,” producer Amy Johnson said.
Following a record-breaking season in New Zealand, the Newcastle run marks a homecoming for the Australian-produced works, which have captivated more than 600,000 people across the country.
“I have experienced SÉANCE and can highly recommend it — fun, convincing and unnerving,” New Annual Festival Director Tory Loudon said.
“This year’s New Annual is about taking art onto the streets and discovering something new. These short, sharp and satisfying experiences are the perfect way to encounter unexpected art in unconventional spaces.”
DARKFIELD’s SÉANCE and FLIGHT will run, as part of the New Annual Festival, from 5 September to 12 October. Tickets are on sale now via darkfield.com.au/newcastle.
