It’s been a while since we’ve heard new music from local singer-songwriter Lili Crane, and now we know why.
Today, Lili has unleached Daphzie – A new powerhouse indie-rock solo project she’s been producing from the comfort of her bedroom.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Beabadoobee, Pale Waves, Slowly Slowly and Stand Atlantic, Lili describes Daphzie as the product of a kid with Katy Perry posters all over their bedroom walls and love for Radioheadโs album, The Bends“.
This mix of influence is apparent in the first Daphzie single, Be Here.
“Every time I listen to Be Here, the same images float around my head,” Daphzie said.
“This song came to me so easily and tells the story of such an important time in my life that helped shape who I am today. Writing this song was relieving because it assisted me in closing a painful chapter.”
The song, that you can listen to on all streaming platforms from today, is the lead single from the forthcoming EP, IDG2LA&TATWSH.
Recorded and self-produced in her bedroom, the song was mixed by Gareth Hudson at Hazy Cosmic Jive Studio and mastered by fellow bedroom producer and band member, Healey Olsen.
“I have recorded and self-produced this song and my EP that is still to come,” Daphzie said.
“I wanted to give it a go and see what I could achieve, and I have absolutely loved the process and couldnโt be prouder of what I have created.
“Gareth is such an incredible mentor and encouraged me to begin producing my own music and is always a text message or phone call away to answer my millions of questions or listen to my 47,000 different mixes.
“Iโve been lucky to have so many friends in my corner to help and support me during this creative process.”
A music video for Be Here, produced by Elliot Leonard, is set for release on 25 July. You can find out more about Daphzie and stream the single by visiting daphzie.com.au.
