A unique, and sustainable, clothes swap event aimed at young people and school leavers, is happening in the Hunter later this month.
The free event, a collaboration between Cessnock and Maitland Councils, will give young people the chance to refresh their wardrobes without a big budget or an environmental impact.
With a focus on clothing for school formals, end-of-year celebrations, and job interviews, the event aims to encourage sustainability and waste reduction by allowing attendees to trade their gently used clothing and accessories for new-to-them items.
PROTIP: If you don’t have any formal fashion to swap, you can ask your friends and family members to give you some stuff!
Participants are encouraged to bring up to six items of clean, high-quality clothing or accessories, such as handbags, jewellery, and shoes.
These items should be well-maintained and suitable for others to wear.
“This partnership with Maitland City Council demonstrates our shared commitment to reducing waste and promoting environmental sustainability across our respective communities,” Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said.
In addition to the swap, there will be a limited selection of formal attire available for students who need clothing for their events but do not have items to exchange.
This inclusive gesture ensures that all students, regardless of their circumstances, have the opportunity to look their best for important occasions. Students in need are encouraged to contact the event organizers in advance to make necessary arrangements.
The Free Formal Clothes Swap event is happening at the Gillieston Heights Community Hub on Saturday 27 July 2024. For more information, and to grab a free ticket to the event, visit humanitix.com.
