City of Newcastle to fund $900,000 worth of fresh ideas

Community groups, residents, and business owners in Newcastle are being invited to apply for nearly $900,000 in funding to help enhance the city’s culture, environment, and economy.

The City of Newcastle grants and sponsorships program offers financial support for a variety of initiatives, including community support, sustainability, environmental projects, and event sponsorship.

This substantial funding pool is aimed at empowering local efforts to improve the city and make it a more vibrant place to live and work.

“This is the community’s chance to secure grants for initiatives that improve our local way of life,” Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said.

“Our grants and sponsorships program can also help to alleviate the cost of living crisis with funding for things such as social inclusion.”

The funding will be distributed through several streams. The Special Business Rate program will allocate funds specifically to projects that support the promotion, beautification, and development of Wallsend and Hamilton.

Applications for these areas will open ahead of those for the City Centre, which are set to begin later this year.

This targeted approach ensures that key districts within Newcastle receive focused investment to boost their appeal and functionality.

Applications for the grants and sponsorships program are open from 3 June to 30 June. Among the funding streams are Infrastructure Grants, which focus on minor capital projects such as Recreation Facilities Grants and Façade Improvement Grants.

Community Support Grants aim to enhance community services through Arts, Culture and History Grants, Social Inclusion Grants, and Youth Climate Action Grants. These grants are designed to support community-based groups, sports and recreation clubs, and service organizations in their efforts to enrich the local community.

In addition to these, the Event Sponsorship Program provides funding to promote vibrant and active spaces, attract visitors from near and far, and enhance Newcastle’s reputation as a dynamic events city. This includes General Sponsorships, Major Sponsorships, Incubator Sponsorships, and Business Events Sponsorships. Furthermore, Tourism and Economic Development sponsorships are available to support activities and initiatives that drive economic benefit by fostering skills, innovation, and the creation of lively public spaces.
