Applications are now open for the 2026 APRA Professional Development Awards, offering songwriters and composers the chance to take their careers to the next level with a $10,000 boost.

Now in its 15th year, the program will see 13 winners across multiple genres receive funds to fuel their professional growth.

Open to APRA AMCOS members at pivotal career stages, the awards are designed to provide game-changing opportunities. The $10,000 prize can be used for activities such as workshops, music courses, co-writing sessions, composer seminars, or other career-enhancing ventures both in Australia and overseas.

Over the years, the PDAs have been a launchpad for some of Australiaโ€™s most celebrated artists, with past winners including Angie McMahon, Baker Boy, BARKAA, Elsy Wameyo, Gotye, Melanie Dyer, Ngaiire and Yirrmal.

The awards have also supported emerging talents in niche genres, providing exposure and resources to help them refine their craft.

Of the 13 awards on offer, three will be dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, with two general awards and one specifically for senior musicians aged 50 and over.

Other categories span Country/Americana, Classical & Experimental, Dance/Electronic, Hip Hop/Rap, Jazz and Improvised Music, Music Theatre/Stage, Popular Contemporary (two awards), R&B/Soul, and Screen Composition for film, TV and games.

The initiative has already proven to be a turning point for many artists. Past recipients have spoken about the doors it opened, the collaborations it sparked, and the confidence it instilled in their music careers, often encouraging others to apply even if they feel theyโ€™re a long shot.

Applications for 2026 APRA Professional Development Awards close at 5pm AEST on Tuesday 23 September 2025, with winners announced on Thursday 12 February 2026. More information, including eligibility details and application forms, is available at apraamcos.com.au.
