As part of the New Annual festival, Chalk the Walk saw seven renowned Australian Street Artists hit the streets of Newcastle to create 3D street art.

The works, and the self-guided tours around the city to check them all out, were only meant to run until 2 October. But now organisers have made the decision to give everyone until the 10 October to leave the trail in place until the end of the school holidays.

Chalk the Walk, and the interactive street art will now remain in the city until Monday, 10 October. Check out where to find each of the works below.

Artist: Anton Pulvirenti
Location: Kuwami Place, Hunter St

Anton’s artwork Dial Dali is a tribute to the great surrealist masters’ best-known work The Persistence of Memory and his famous Lobster Telephone sculptures.

Artist: Jenny McCracken
Location: Newcastle Visitor Information Centre

Paint like Margaret Olley – Margaret is one of the most widely recognised figures in Australian art. Born in Lismore, she fell in love with Newcastle, setting up a studio locally and documenting the city through her painting.

Artist: Mealie B
Location: Hunter Street Mall

Chalk the Walk extended

Mealie B’s artwork Escape from Escher may be smaller than the others in this year’s Chalk the Walk trail, but it’s packed full of the great detail, mind-blowing symmetry and explorations of perspective that the great master was known for.

Artist: Leonardo Uribe
Location: Cnr Laman and Darby St

Leonardo’s caped interpretation of Auguste Rodin’s sculpture The Thinker might be considered a comment on the way society regards today’s street artists in comparison to the masters that are exhibited in galleries and collections across the world.

Artist: Mealie B
Location: Civic Park

The Living Statue – All the greatest sculptures are displayed on a beautiful plinth! For this year’s “Art on the Streets” Art Trail, Mealie B has created a classically styled plinth so that anyone passing through Civic Park for the New Annual Festival can pose easily as a Living Statue.

Artist: Rudy Kistler
Location: The Station

One of the most recognised pieces of art in the world, it was natural that Rudy Kistler would bring Van Gogh’s Starry Night to the streets of Newcastle. Rudy’s personal paintings lean toward an impressionist style and in this piece he has created a 3D illusion, depicting the painting as a jigsaw puzzle.

Artist: Fiesta Concarne
Location: Cnr Council and Darby St

René Magritte was a Belgian surrealist who became well-known for his witty and thought-provoking images. Australian Artist Fiesta Concarne is certainly proving himself up to the task of paying homage to this great master with his version of the Son of Man.
