The Newcastle Comedy Festival is raising a glass to local collaboration, teaming up with Grainfed Brewery to launch a limited-edition official festival beer ahead of this year’s month-long celebration of laughs.
Named Canned Laughter, the special brew is the result of a partnership between two proudly Newcastle organisations, celebrating the city’s independent spirit while highlighting the value of local businesses supporting local events.
More than just a festival novelty, the collaboration aims to showcase how community partnerships can strengthen Newcastle’s cultural scene and economy.
The Newcastle Comedy Festival has grown into one of Australia’s fastest-growing regional comedy events, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
Around 10,000 people are expected to attend the 2026 festival, providing a welcome boost to hospitality venues, accommodation providers and other local businesses while cementing Newcastle’s reputation as a thriving cultural destination.
Grainfed Brewery, the Hunter’s first independent brewery, shares that same community-first approach, making the collaboration a natural fit.
The partnership celebrates Newcastle’s creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and the people behind the city’s vibrant arts and hospitality industries, with both organisations committed to investing back into the community that supports them.
Festival-goers will be able to enjoy Canned Laughter throughout the event at participating venues, giving audiences the chance to sample a beer created especially for the occasion while supporting two home-grown brands.
The collaboration also reflects a broader movement of Newcastle businesses working together to create memorable experiences that benefit the city long after the final curtain falls.
The Newcastle Comedy Festival runs from 16 July to 16 August, with Canned Laughter available at participating festival venues throughout the event. For the full program and tickets, visit newycomedy.com.
