An astounding lineup of 114 artists from across the Hunter region is set to take centre stage at The Creator Incubator’s annual exhibition, Counteractions: March Forward, to celebrate International Women’s Day.

The event aims to shine a light on gender inequality while raising funds for Nova for Women and Children, a vital service supporting women in crisis throughout Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. The exhibition itself is believed to be the largest all-female exhibition in Australia outside of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.

Curated by artists Kara Wood, Lyndal Campbell, and Marlene Houston, Counteractions: March Forward brings together creatives from a variety of disciplines. Among the participants are multidisciplinary artist Nicole Monks and renowned printmaker Vera Zulumovski.

Beyond the visual showcase, the event will feature a panel discussion on 15 March, bringing together leading women from the fields of arts, law, and literature. Panelists include Newcastle Art Gallery Director Lauretta Morton OAM, Maitland Regional Art Gallery Director Gerry Bobsien, Newcastle Writers Festival Director Rosemarie Milsom, artist Nicole Monks, and lawyer Catherine Henry.

Adding to the program, a professional development workshop, which is open to all, titled Forward Thinking will take place on 16 March. The session will be led by Courtney Novak, Deputy Director of Maitland Regional Art Gallery, and Miriam Kelly, Head of Curatorial & Exhibitions at Newcastle Art Gallery.

Counteractions: March Forward will open at The Creator Incubator with a launch event happening on 8 March and be open to the public until 23 March. You can check out artist bios and further event information by heading to thecreatorincubator.com.
