Big Picture Festival is set to take over the streets of Newcastle once again from 30 September to 2 October.
Eight new large-scale murals will be painted over the three days of the festival by artists like Michael Black, Georgia Hill and James R Ellis.
The whole thing will kick off with a massive launch party on Friday 30 September hosted by Playstate Curate Gallery, Jamโs Karaoke Bar, and the Rogue Scholar.
Featuring a group exhibition of both 2020 and 2022 Big Picture Fest Artists, the free launch event will also include a dynamic poetry slam, live DJs, MCs and a scribble slam.
In addition to incredible murals and launch party, there will be free public events throughout the weekend.
“It will be a busy weekend for Newcastle, so we encourage you to get out to see them in action as the art they create injects colour and energy into our city,” Katerina Skoumbas, Newcastle Big Picture Festival Director said.
Local community arts UP&UP will host a graffiti jam tribute to โSpray Alleyโ, acknowledging Newcastle’s long-standing graffiti story and Big Picture Fest’s new mentor program, CROSSPOINT will showcase the work of four local emerging artists.
People wanting to get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of The Big Picture Fest are encouraged to enter a ballot to win a tour hosted by Newcastle Afoot.
“I am bubbling over at the thought of returning to Newcastle for our 2nd instalment as The Big Picture Fest in 2022,” Festival founder and curator Joel said.
“We are an artist-led festival that honours Local community and native lands and strives to create a beautiful environment for all to share amongst the growing cityscape.”
