When Emily and Katie, from Betty Loves Books, first met seven years ago they never imagined that one day they would open their own shop.
But Emily had always dreamt of owning one, and you could never get Katie out of them so it was kind of inevitable.
And this week, after success at local markets, Betty Loves Books will open the doors of their book shop at The Station on the corner of Watt and Scott streets.
Specialising in a curated selection of new and secondhand books, Emily and Katie have designed a space for a personalised shopping experience that invites visitors and readers to come, choose a book and have a chat over a cuppa – because Betty also Loves Tea.
The Betty Loves Tea range is made from Organic and native Australian ingredients, blended on-site.
Emily and Katie have also opened their walls up for local artists to exhibit their work.
At the moment, in-store, you can find artworks from Squidless studios, Art By Amy Charlton, Sarah Russel Art, Anne-Maree Hunter and Sonny Studio which you can check out and purchase while you’re chatting about books.
Amazing tea blends and art aside, the real star of the show here (and Emily and Katie’s passion) are the books.
All the books in the store have been hand-selected with a limited selection of recent release secondhand books also available. You’ll find some older Australian and international fiction and you can order anything your heart desires if you can’t find it on the shelves.
You can check out Betty Loves Books, which is named after Katie’s dog Betty by the way, at shop 1a The Station on the corner of Watt and Scott streets or visit their online store at bettylovesbooks.com.au.
