Newcastle’s local music scene will take centre stage this month when Home Grown Festival transforms Bar on the Hill into a free, all-ages celebration of emerging talent.

Designed to showcase the city’s thriving music community, the inaugural Home Grown Festival expands on its original concept to become a community-focused event that welcomes music fans of all ages.

Running across two stages, the afternoon festival aims to connect audiences with some of the region’s most exciting up-and-coming acts in an accessible and family-friendly setting.

The lineup features eight artists, highlighting a mix of Newcastle favourites and rising talent.

Festival-goers can catch performances from Saylor and the Flavor, Gauze, Butterknife, Elestial, Reservoir, The Sweet Heaps and Loose Zipperz, alongside Sydney artist Kate Moth.

By removing ticket costs, the festival hopes to make live music more accessible while giving emerging musicians a valuable platform to perform in front of new audiences.

The event also reflects the strength and diversity of Newcastle’s independent music scene, encouraging the community to discover fresh local talent in a relaxed festival atmosphere.

With performances spread across two stages throughout the afternoon, Home Grown Festival promises a packed program of indie, rock and alternative sounds, offering an easy way for music lovers to support local artists while enjoying one of Newcastle’s favourite live music venues.

Home Grown Festival takes place at Bar on the Hill on Saturday, 15 August, from 1pm to 6pm. Entry is free and the event is open to all ages. Find out more by heading to newcastle.edu.au.
