Newcastle’s iconic Bar on the Hill is back at the heart of the local music scene with Home Grown, a new Thursday-night series dedicated to celebrating original Newcastle artists.
Kicking off this Thursday, the series promises a curated lineup of local acts, free entry, and a chance to see the city’s emerging talent in action.
The first show features SoyBoy, a high-energy five-piece from Muloobinba blending post-punk, synth-pop, art-rock and dance-punk into one chaotic, genre-bending performance.
They will be supported by The Sweet Heaps and Trophy Wyfe, adding to the diverse and exciting soundscape of the opening night.
Home Grown isn’t just about the music. Bar on the Hill, a cornerstone of Newcastle’s live scene since the 1980s, has long championed local acts through initiatives like the UoN Band Comp.
This series continues that tradition, offering a weekly platform for emerging artists to reach live audiences in an intimate, vibrant setting.
The series runs every Thursday throughout March and April, giving Newcastle music lovers multiple chances to catch fresh sounds each week. Alongside the music, the venue will feature drink specials from 4 Pines and Brookvale Union, creating the perfect soundtrack for a night out with friends.
With the first Home Grown lineup already promising a high-energy start, the series is shaping up to be a must-visit event for locals and visitors alike, shining a spotlight on the depth of Newcastle’s music community.
The first Home Grown show takes place at Bar on the Hill, Thursday, 5 March at 7 PM. Entry is free, with full details and upcoming lineups available through the venue’s official social channels.
