Back in the heady days of 1993, Melbourne soul rockers, The Badloves released their debut album Get On Board. The rest, as they say, is history.
Containing the massive hits, Lost, Memphis, I Remember, and Green Limousine, the album catapulted the band into the Oz music stratosphere, netting them a swag of plaudits including five ARIA nominations and three wins – Best New Talent, Breakthrough Artist – album and Breakthrough Artist – single for Lost)
Well, some 28 years after the slab first surfaced, the good folks over at Warner Music have seen fit to re-release Get On Board on vinyl and as a digital deluxe set that will include unreleased tracks from the band’s 1993 Triple J Live AT The Wireless session.
Even better, to celebrate the release, the band are hitting the road on a national tour which will stop by Lizotte’s on Thursday 22 April.
Capitalising on the success of Get On Board with extensive tours across Australia and Europe, The Badloves followed the debut with the also brilliant Holy Roadside, home to a string of hits including Slave, Barefoot Bride, Living Thing, and Caroline,
While The Badloves’ wagon has rarely left the road in 30 long years, their recording output has been sparse.
That drought finally broke in 2019 when the band released the superb soulbrothertruckinsong, their first new single in 17 years, following up with their latest single Tribal, which like some of the best, came to frontman Michael Spiby in a recurring dream.
“I don’t usually remember dreams, they’re so hard to catch,” he said.
“But often enough I wake up disturbed by this one recurring theme – how will I keep my little tribe together in tough times, am I up to the task? Tribal is my recurring dream, caught in the light of day.”
