WHAT’S ON LAKE MAC: Your guide to April events in Lake Macquarie

There’s a stack of great events happening in Lake Mac this month and we’ve teamed up with Lake Macquarie City Council to tell you all about them.

With the autumn school holidays in full swing, there are a bunch of great workshops and activities on offer for the kids, some gigs for live music lovers and a lineup of amazing arts and cultural events.

MAJOR EVENTS

Your Local Club Academy Games

Hosted by the Hunter Academy of Sport, the 2021 Your Local Club Academy Games will showcase some of the state’s most talented emerging athletes across seven sports including Basketball, Golf, Hockey, Netball, Softball, Aussie Rules and Triathlon.

Anzac Day

Chilli Jam: Live @ The Lake

Experience YOUTH music from three young local bands in a live setting.

Too Much Rock ‘n’ Roll: A Life in Music – Mark Tinson

Enjoy an evening out and learn the story of a young musician growing up with the Australian music industry. Mark Tinson discusses his life in the rock’n’roll bubble and his part in shaping the Newcastle musical landscape.

ART & CULTURE

Sunday Sessions

Grab a drink, enjoy some local music and artmaking: Gold Leaf Scratch Drawing.

Tickets are $20. Your ticket covers one wine, beer (or soft drink), with cheese, and all art materials.

LateMAC

Enjoy refreshments, music and artmaking inspired by the ‘First Class 20’ exhibition.

Tickets are $45 per person, Couples are $80, a Table is $40 each for group bookings of 6 to 10. Each ticket includes one drink and light dinner.

Art Club: Tuesdays@Charlestown

Children will have fun developing new artmaking skills in a friendly environment with a professional artist commencing on Tuesday 27 April, and continuing on Tuesday 4, 11, 18 May.

This course will explore drawing and watercolour techniques. All attendees receive a $30 value pack to keep.

Tickets for the four-week course costs $100. Creative Kids vouchers accepted for this activity.

Glitter Fish Suncatchers

Learn how you can recycle materials to make your own sun catcher at this free workshop. Suitable for ages 4+.

Paint Me a Story

See Chinese brush-stroke artist Stephen Cassettari at work, and enjoy a story with a difference. As Stephen paints different animals, he will tell a story through his paintings. Suitable for ages 6 years+.

Creative Ageing Forum

A professional development day for health care workers and artists working in the aged care industry.

Write your own book: creative writing workshop for kids

This creative writing workshop is ideal for children who would like to develop their story writing skills, and undertake the process of creating a book from beginning to end.

Tickets are $100 and include all materials, and morning and afternoon tea. Creative Kids vouchers accepted for this activity.

All About Snakes Snake

SnakeAbout: Check out an exhibition of original illustrations, models, sketches, shed snakeskins and photographs between Saturday 3 April – Sunday 30 May 2021.

Insight into Snakes: Join reptile rescuer Teresa Purnell, for an insightful discussion on snakes, and what to do if you find one on Friday 9 April. Suitable for ages 6+.

Storytime & Craft: Come along to a fun morning all about snakes, with stories and craft on Tuesday 13 April. Everyone will make their own snake to take home. Suitable for ages 4 – 8 years.
