Television historian and pop culture aficionado, Andrew Mercado will celebrate the golden age of Australian television in a special show at Flamingos Live.

A familiar face on Australian screens since 1999, Mercado began his career as the movie guy on Channel [V] and Kerrie-Anne. Reflecting on the unique viewing landscape of Newcastle, heโ€™ll recount how locals had access to a modest choice of five channelsโ€”or sometimes as few as two, depending on their location and aerial setup.

The show, TV Classics with Andrew Mercado, is a nostalgic journey through the shows that defined generations with Mercado acting as a guide exploring the moments that shocked audiences, the ads that captivated viewers, and the personalities who brought it all to life.

The evening will also feature a special tribute to NBN3, Newcastleโ€™s cherished local station. Mercado will highlight its contribution to Australian television history, spotlighting beloved locally produced shows and pioneering dramas like Number 96 and The Box.

These programs, trailblazing in their depictions of social issues, famously ignited controversyโ€”including a spirited protest from a Merewether resident against what he saw as fornication invading his living room.

TV Classics with Andrew Mercado will take over Flaningos Live in Lambton on 22 January 2025 Tickets are available now at flamingos.live.
