On Sunday, 30 October, the Rathmines Catalina Festival will see thousands of people from across the region descend on the shores of Lake Macquarie to commemorate the rich history of the Rathmines World War II RAAF Base.

Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Cr Kay Fraser, said Council is a proud sponsor of the event, which is now in its tenth year.

โ€œThe Rathmines Catalina Festival is a wonderful community event that promotes the significance of the Rathmines RAAF Base, which became the largest RAAF flying boat base in the southern hemisphere during World War II,โ€ Cr Fraser said.

โ€œAs well as educating the community about the base and its significant place in our history, the Festival is a fun and exciting day out for the whole family.โ€

The Festival features live entertainment, more than 50 market stalls, and delicious food, plus land, sea and air activities.

โ€œIโ€™d encourage anyone with an interest in Catalina or Lake Macquarieโ€™s history, or those who want to spend a family day out by the lake, to come along to the Festival to join in the fun,โ€ Cr Fraser said.
