A terrifying live theatre experience is coming to Newcastle

They say it’s one of the most terrifying live theatre experiences in the world and it’s coming to Newcastle!

Starring John Waters and Daniel MacPherson, The Woman in Black will hit the stage at the Civic Theatre for a limited run this July.

Based on Susan Hill’s 1983 gothic novel, The Woman in Black is the second longest-running play in West End history, after Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap.

The show tells the story of a tormented lawyer who’s grappling with an all-consuming obsession.

Seeking solace from his harrowing ordeal, he enlists the aid of a sceptical young actor to unravel his chilling narrative and confront the suffocating fear that ensnares him and his kin. What starts as a seemingly innocuous endeavour swiftly takes a sinister turn into the depths of his darkest memories.

The show has already played in Brisbane to rave reviews with Stage Whispers calling it one of Waters’ best performances.

It’s not the first time John Waters has tackled the theatrical work having previously starred in the show back in 2006, opposite Brett Tucker.

The Woman in Black will take to the stage at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle for a limited season from Tuesday 23 July 2024. Show information and tickets can be found at civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
