It was Déjà vu when 500 punters packed into the Belmont 16s auditorium last Saturday to witness local band DV8 celebrate the 30th anniversary of the recording of the 1987 classic album, DV8 Live!

Recorded over two nights at Belmont 16s in April in 1987, the double album showcased the raw energy and rock and roll assault that the band delivered. And now we were ready to relive the event all over again.

Here’s 5 things we learnt.

1 – The guys in Access all 80’s really wear that spandex.

We’re not sure where you’re packing it boys, but you’re owning that shiz.

2 – The riffs still stand up

Those picked chunky riffs Greg Bryce is renowned for still stand up. They’re rhythmic and precise and it really sets the energy for each song.

3 – DV8 fans know how to party

There wasn’t a foot left untapped or a bum not shaken. These guys still know how to get down.

4 – Grant Walmsley is world class

Every time we see Grant Walmsley play it reminds us how amazing he is with that guitar strapped to his body. He stepped up for a for numbers, sharing licks with Bryce, and we almost called Greenpeace.

5 – Newcastle loves a good 3 piece band

There’s something about the spectacle of watching 3 people create a sound greater than the sum of their own parts that we really love. Maybe it’s the underdog thing…
