Newcastle Live contributor, Laura Kebby found herself on the rooftop of the Bolton Street Car Park on Saturday night for the Elsewhere music event. Here’s 5 things she learnt from the experience.

Beer tastes better outside

Thereโ€™s just something about it, I have no idea exactly what it is, but to me, thereโ€™s no better way to enjoy a fine beverage than when youโ€™re amongst the great outdoors, with good company and fantastic music. I also think thereโ€™s a sense of exclusivity about it, something so freeing and wonderful about enjoying lifeโ€™s little rewards high above the city skyline.

Rooftops make people nostalgic and romantic

As someone who is notoriously flying solo it was quite easy to notice the abundance of couples gazing at each other as if it were Christmas. It warmed my heart to see so many people connecting, especially outside of the realm of Tinder.

Dustin Tebbutt will make you feel like youโ€™re in love

His voice and atmospheric display of musicianship made me feel so deliciously gooey inside. His performance catapulted my already next level fandom into the stratosphere. Such a down to earth gentlemen who wooed the crowd with his every nuance.

The Emperor Penguins had it right

Warmth in numbers people! Although unlike a lot of penguins, this time I could be the hobbit sized individual towards the front of the crowd reaping the benefits of a living breathing blanket. It was nice, the crowd seemed to acknowledge the presence of one another a lot more, interacting and connecting simply due to the environment.

Our city. Is. Beautiful

Itโ€™s so easy to forget sometimes, exactly how beautiful the place youโ€™re lucky enough to call home is. But being on a rooftop, listening to Bob Evans win me over with some nostalgic folk music whilst drinking red wine from the bottle reminded me why. As a side note, the lights really are that beautiful. I promise you that.

ABOUT LAURA

Iโ€™m Laura, and writing about our wonderful city is something I am oh so passionate about. You can find me tucked away in the corner of your local open mic night, taking in the sights with a local artist flowing through my headphones, or hanging out in the front row of your first gig where youโ€™re debating whether the staff count as crowd members. Built on coffee, live music and punk nostalgia, I write about talented people doing talented things.
