The 3 best Netflix shows you are probably not watching ……….and why you should be!

The Good Place

Who is in it : Kristen Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, D’Arcy Carden, Manny Jacinto

What is it : a very clever, sharp and witty show about Eleanor, a deceased woman of a rather dubious nature who finds herself, most unexpectedly, in the Good Place after her untimely death. Greeted by a Good Place architect Michael, who takes us all through a brief ‘everything you have always wanted to know about the afterlife but were too not dead to ask’ and then introduces Eleanor to her soulmate Chidi. Eleanor confides in Chidi that there has been a grave (ha ha) misunderstanding and so she can stay and feel like she truly belongs, Eleanor must discover what it means to be good.

Why should I watch it : other than being one of the funniest and most original comedies in a long time, The Good Place has an (arguably) subversive heart. Everything that is so perfect seems to be just as unperfect at the same time. It is quirky and charming and just strange enough that you find yourself sitting through just one more episode.

Already half way through season 2 and airing on the same day as the US, if you haven’t seen the show, please don’t let it be spoiled for you before you watch all season 1. The you may want to watch it again to see where you missed the huge twist.

Who is in it : Jenna Coleman, Daniela Holtz, Nell Hudson, Tom Hughes, David Oakes, Rufus Sewell

What is it : a very British 8 part series focussing on the young Queen Victoria, from the day of her ascension to the throne of England until the birth of her first child.

Why should I watch it : most of us are familiar with the almost tragic widow Victoria, her devotion to her husband Prince Albert the stuff of legends. This series shines a light on the curious and courageous young Victoria as she steers her own path from suffocated little Princess to a Queen who truly rules in her own right while managing to remain a devoted wife and producing a flock of children who would go on to populate many of the royal houses of Europe.

New to Netflix, season 2 is currently airing on Foxtel. Jenna Coleman brings us a coquettish yet fiercely intelligent woman who deserves her place as one of the world’s most revered Queens.

Who is in it : Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Hannah Gross, Anna Torv

What is it : It’s the late 1970’s and 2 FBI agents must try and drag the bureau kicking and screaming into the modern world of dealing with criminal minds quite unlike any they have seen before. Criminals used to be motivated by a few very basic things but times have changed and so must the bureau if it is to understand the workings of the world’s most deranged minds….. before it’s too late.

Why should I watch it : because deep down, we all want to know what makes a serial killer tick, what drives someone to kill for no other reason than the thrill of it. But this is no blood and gore series …. and that makes it so much more interesting.

The entire first season is there for the binge watching.
