Belmont 16s will celebrate 100 years of sailing on Belmont Bay with a huge weekend of events including a Centenary Celebration featuring entertainment by iconic Australian artist Kate Ceberano.

Today’s Centenary Celebration will be hosted by Vince Sorrenti and mark the significant milestones by not only reflecting on the past and the club’s significant milestones but also by looking to the future with major extensions and renovations currently underway.

Kate Ceberano will headline the event with a performance of some of her most loved songs.

The club first began in 1922 when 400 people gathered on the shores of Lake Macquarie to watch the start of the very first 16-foot skiff racing at the newly formed Belmont sailing club.

Seven skiffs and their crews, resplendent in uniform, set sail to greet the starter. At stake was prize money of ยฃ12, which was the equivalent of a monthโ€™s wages in those days.

The club has achieved a lot of onshore achievements over the 100 years too. From supporting community and local not-for-profit groups to offering a wide array of dining and entertainment facilities for Members and visitors.

The club has now become one of the largest employers in the Lake Macquarie area.

The Centenary Celebrations get underway today, Friday 7 October, and will continue over the 8 9 October with dinghy classes and the 16-Foot skiff fleet. Visit 16s.com.au to find out more.
