Your ultimate guide to Newcastle beaches

Hellooooo summer! Did anyone else feel that 40-degree heat burning up the stratosphere the other day? Just me? Surely not.

Where did you head to cool down? Or, by chance, are you one of the 1% with air con in their home and just didn’t leave the couch all day? I am not one of the lucky ones so obviously, I headed to the beach.

Which beach you ask? It’s the eternal question (we’re so spoilt for choice here!) but if you’re stuck for choices we’ve put together a handy-dandy guide just for you this summer.

Bar Beach

One of my favourite swimming spots in town Bar really has the best of everything. The water is usually super calm, heaps of places along the sand to stretch out and take some time to take time you know? There is also a roped off designated swimming area (some call it the baby pool whatever) and also a great kiosk. Winning.

Newcastle Beach

Speaking of great kiosks, Newcastle beach anyone? Ok fine it’s not all about the kiosk, even though Newy has a great one, the beach is pretty bloody fantastic too! Great swimming, patrolled and close to everything you could need to continue when the sun goes down.

This one is a bit of a nostalgic inclusion, nothing says Newcastle to me like Nobbys beach. Perfect for kids, families, and everything in between. This is also closer to honeysuckle so once again you can just wander on down to grab a drank wherever and whenever you please.

Did you know that Merewether was once voted as one of the top 50 beaches in Australia? How awesome is that? Although it is number 4 on our list don’t let that get you down. Merewether boasts one of the best damn sunrises in all the land and the swimming g is pretty great too.

Susan Gilmore

This is one you might not have heard of. Technically the “nudie beach” if that’s your thing (hey this particular writer encourages for you to do you and let it all hang out when appropriate) but it’s also a ridiculously beautiful beach and place to hang out and hike to. Just head to bar beach and hang a left. Ya dig?
