Live music lovers are in for a real treat when the Great Southern Nights series takes centre stage at the Civic Theatre Newcastle this month.

AUSTIN MACKAY

FRIDAY 8 MARCH

Austin Mackay will launch the Great Southern Nights series at the Civic Theatre Newcastle with a ban when he takes the stage this Friday, 8 March. This show marks Austin’s return to hometown glory after a series of sell-out headline shows around the country. Set to deliver a unique and intimate performance in the Playhouse, Austin has honed his distinctive blend of folk and rock over the years. His performances are a testament to his skill in weaving raw storytelling into captivating deliveries, creating an experience that resonates with fans and newcomers alike.

MAPLE GLIDER

SATURDAY 9 MARCH

Maple Glider is the solo venture of Melbourne’s talented singer-songwriter Tori Zietsch. Maple will hit the stage at the Playhouse with a bag full of enchanting songs like I Get Into Trouble and To Enjoy Is The Only Thing. This rare event marks her sole performance in Newcastle and promises an evening of soul-stirring melodies and heartfelt storytelling that’s not to be missed.

UNDER THE AWNING II

SATURDAY 23 MARCH

The curtain is set to close on Civic’s Great Southern Nights campaign with a grand finale on Saturday, 23 March featuring an exciting family-friendly outdoor party organized by the renowned festival creators, Dashville (known for The Gum Ball, Dashville Skyline, Pig Sty, and Thrashville). Named Under the Awning II, this event will showcase the talents of rock ‘n’ roll troubadours Skyscraper Stan & The Commission Flats, Sydney-based singer-songwriter Georgia Mulligan, the highly anticipated return of Magpie Diaries, and Newcastle’s very own Chai Chester. Starting at a convenient 2 pm, Under The Awning II unfolds beneath the Civic Theatre’s majestic awning, offering ample space for families and music enthusiasts to revel in live performances. Admission is free for kids and only $20 for adults, promising a vibrant celebration of community and music for all attendees.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

Peter Garrett & The Alter Egos are set pack out City Hall on 12 March, promising an unforgettable night of music and energy. Meanwhile, Dan Sultan has already sold out two performances at the Playhouse on 10 March, with support from the talented Bec Sandridge. There’s also an outdoor performance by Newcastle’s very own alternative fusion jazz experts, Bleu Collective, on 15 March, followed by a dynamic double-bill featuring Nina Romeru & Chain Daisy on 22 March, right outside the Civic Theatre.
