HONK! JR: The new Young People’s Theatre production

A heartwarming adaptation of the Broadway musical inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, will soon take to the stage at Young Peoples Theatre in Hamilton.

The show’s called Honk! JR, and it follows the journey of Ugly, who looks rather different from his duckling siblings.

Despite his mother’s protective nature, Ugly embarks on a self-discovery adventure, inadvertently outsmarting a hungry Cat along the way. Through his encounters with a host of diverse characters, he learns the invaluable lesson that being different is something to embrace.

Director, Kate Booth, an alumna of Young People’s Theatre, praised the cast, featuring actors as young as eight years old, for their dedication in creating this fun and quirky piece of theatre.

This season of Honk! JR is the third time the 75-year-old theatre company has presented the work on its stage.

Since its inception in 1948, YPT has evolved into a thriving theatre school and company, continuing to enrich the Newcastle community through the performing arts and presenting shows like Honk! JR.

The Young People’s Theatre season of Honk! JR. runs from 26 September. Tickets and show information can be found at ypt.org.au.
