NOW WE ARE HERE: Xanadu on the big screen for International Women’s Day

Bust out the rah-rah skirts and fluro leggings because Lake Mac’s Multi-Arts Pavilion mima is hosting a special screening of the ’80s cinema classic Xanadu.

The screening is part of Lake Mac’s International Women’s Day celebrations and organisers are encouraging everyone to embrace the era where style reigned supreme and Olivia Newton-John ruled the screen.

Singing along, of course, is encouraged and may be induced by the consumption of some special IWD signature cocktails, beverages that will be available over the bar.

For the uninitiated, the cult classic, directed by Robert Greenwald, follows the story of struggling artist Sonny Malone (Michael Beck), who becomes enamoured with Kira (Olivia Newton-John), an ageless Greek muse. Together, they team up with old-fashioned Danny McGuire (Gene Kelly) to build a roller-skating disco, setting the stage for a magical and musical journey.

Yeah… It’s pretty rad.

Tickets for the event are priced at $10 for general admission and $9 for Lake Mac Arts members, with all proceeds going to The Sports Bra Project which aims to increase access to sports for women and girls by providing sports bras to athletes who don’t have access to such essential equipment.

Xanadu will screen at the Multi-Arts Pavilion (MAP mima) in Lake Macquarie on Friday, 8 March. For more information visit lakemac.com.au.
