Word’s out about Jep & Dep

Sydney based, acoustic duo Jep and Dep are headed to The Lass O’Gowrie Hotel to release their debute album Word Got Out.

Jessica Cassar and Darren Cross (Jep and Dep) recorded the release in one 1.5hr session that was then produced for 5 months by Darren at his Bernstein Studios.

‘Word Got Out’ flirts around the traditional folk meets Alt-Country genres but delves deep into the 60’s Wall Of Sound – dreamy and intense orchestral arrangements; Jessica having a ʻTorch Singerʼ beauty in her voice to balance Darrenʼs weary and Johnny Cash-esqe vocal tone. But some of the beauty of Word Got Out rests on the songs recorded as they were in the studio: sometimes the song is just the song.

Check out the lead single off the album called ʻGrantedʼ below.

The Heart and Soul of the album is live, with a nod to the way folk music was recorded in the 60’s but then produced with Lee Hazlewood / Nancy Sinatra meets Phil Spector atmospheres, string arrangements and traditional folky percussion- sometimes even creating the same feelings as some of Mick Harveyʼs (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds producer and composer) ambient but darkly produced songs.

Jep and Dep have supported Johnny Marr (The Smiths), Matt Walker & The Lost Ragas, Raised by Eagles, Mia Dyson, & Cara and Kristin Hersh.

Find out more about the show on November 14th by visiting the hotel’s website.
