I dropped into The Small Ballroom last Saturday night, to check out Tassie country rock outfit The Wolfe Brothers doing their thing. Was it good? Dam right it was.

Thankfully I was lucky enough to get there early enough to catch opening act Kaylens Rain, this brother and sister team, Kaylee and Glenn Harrison were one of my favourite Aussie acts at this yearโ€™s CMC Rocks the Hunter and it was great to see them play live again so soon after. Kaylee is now a Newcastle local so hopefully we will get to see a lot more of Kaylens Rain playing at Newcastle Venues. Kaylens Rain has a fantastic new album โ€˜Foundโ€™ out now on iTunes and also available at www.kaylensrain.com

The Wolfe Brothers were up next, Hailing from the Apple isle. The band consists of brothers Nick Wolfe-Guitar/Vocals and Tom Wolfe โ€“ Bass / Vocals, with their childhood friends Brodie Rainbird โ€“ Guitar and Casey Kostiuk โ€“ Drums making up the rest of the band. The Wolfe Brothers had been honing their skills and are a popular fixture around Tassieโ€™s pub circuit until they gained national notoriety on Channel 7’s Australia’s Got Talent 2012.

This band was fantastic to watch on stage they have energy to burn and great showmanship. As well as sounding shit hot and very tight, the boys can rock hard. They play a number of tracks off their debut album โ€˜Itโ€™s Onโ€™ and a few great covers, including a great version of Creedence Clearwater Revivalโ€™s โ€˜Traveling Bandโ€™, see photo gallery for full set list . One of the many highlight of what was a great night was Jasmine Raeโ€™s guest appearance on stage for three songs, this tiny lady is a huge talent, rocking it just as hard as the boys.

If youโ€™re a fan of Country rock, โ€˜Itโ€™s Onโ€™ is well worth adding to your collection, I grabbed a copy at CMC and loved it. But if you really want to see what The Wolfe Brothers is all about go and see them live, believe me if youโ€™re a lover of good live music you will have a ball. โ€˜Itโ€™s Onโ€™ is available on iTunes.
