WHAT’S ON LAKE MAC: Your guide to May events in Lake Macquarie

It’s another huge month of events in Lake Macquarie.

There are some exciting additions to the Lake Mac annual events calendar, family favourites, art and culture events, screening and a bunch of great workshops.

Below, you’ll find all the information about what’s happening in Lake Macquarie in May.

Major Events

Up in the Air Festival

An exciting new event including aerial displays, live entertainment, demonstrations, workshops, magic shows, science shows, market stalls and so much more to entertain you and the family. Tickets are only $8 per person and children under 15 years are free.

Eurovision Viewing Party

Fans of glam are invited to don their most Euro-Fabulous outfit and cheer on the finalists of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest, broadcast live from Rotterdam. Eurovision-themed mocktails and coffee will be available to get you in the party mood and a prize will be awarded for the most outrageous costume (think jumpsuits, disco, sparkles and drama!).

MAC Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea

Treat your mother and yourself to an afternoon of delicious goodies! Tickets $50 each, Group bookings (2 or more) $45 each. Proceeds contribute to the MAC society’s fundraising to support acquisition of art works. Discover vouchers accepted.

Sunday Sessions at MAC

Grab a wine or beer, enjoy some local music and artmaking. Tickets $20.

Four Week Course Over 55s Artmaking Course

Enjoy exploring simple artmaking techniques with an art museum educator. This is a fun and relaxed class where you can explore your creative side with like-minded participants.

Camouflage Drawing Workshops

Hidden in Plain Sight: A children’s painting workshop exploring the natural camouflage of geckos and small lizards. Tickets $15 and all materials are provided.

Cryptic Coats: Painting geckos in pencil and watercolour. Suitable for beginners, dabblers and intermediate artists. Tickets $40 and includes all materials, a glass of wine, cheese and crackers. Discover vouchers accepted.

MAC Drawing Class with artist Sue Rosalind Vesely

Develop your fundamental drawing skills in this 4-week course. Tickets $80. Discover vouchers accepted.

REAL WORLDS: Dobell Australian Biennial 2020

With drawing as the principal medium, the exhibited works evoke distinctive ways of seeing and making sense of the world.

Lake Mac Libraries and Theatres

You’re Kidding Me

This program connects Lake Mac families with local services to support the learning and development of young children. Workshops include self-regulation and sleeping skills for children and sustainable living tips and tricks.
