WHAT’S ON LAKE MAC: Get your skates on for March in Lake Macquarie

The Women in Sport Festival will take over Lake Mac in March showcasing a variety of activities aimed at both newcomers and professional athletes.

Visitors will be able to take part in community-led events, demonstrations and sports exhibitions that will be held across the region.

One of the highlights of the festival for families will be the sports open day giving parents and children the chance to get active together and celebrate the contribution of women in sport.

Women in Sport Festival

The inclusive festival has something for everyone from curious sporting newbies to aspiring pro athletes. The festival promises to feature an array of workshops, clinics, and live entertainment to give festival-goers the perfect opportunity either to spectate or to try their hand at a variety of sports.

Try a Sport Day

Local sporting organisations will be on hand at the Try a Sport Day to help test your ball skills and coordination, and maybe even inspire you to pick up a new or old sport again. It’s a fantastic opportunity to come out and watch or try a range of sports, without any cost or commitment. Each stall has a fun, interactive feature that can engage all family members, including Tennis NSW’s giant target and mini courts, and the Jets’ Inflatable targets.

Clare Bowditch and Georgie Winchester

Join Clare Bowditch with special guest Georgie Winchester for a fabulous night of music to celebrate International Women’s Day! Clare Bowditch is a multi-talented artist who is a musician, broadcaster, actor, speaker, entrepreneur, and author. Her contributions have been recognized with several awards including the ARIA Award for Best Female and the Rolling Stone Woman of the Year Award. She has written a memoir titled Your Own Kind Of Girl and released an audiobook called Tame Your Inner Critic. From Gresford NSW, Georgie Winchester is a singer/songwriter who is known for her folk-rock-flavoured live shows and is the singer in the local band Turpentine Babycino.

Friday Night Foodies X Skaties 80’s & Newcastle Roller Derby League

Enjoy art, local wine or beer, and street eats in our outdoor licensed area while taking part in a wheely-good time with 80’s Skaties and Newcastle Roller Derby League. Come down and check out 80’s Skaties under lights, the perfect spot for beginners and advanced skaters, with free family-friendly fun for all ages, and the opportunity to watch the Newcastle Roller Derby League’s skilled team display their game tactics. Street eats will be provided by Yen’s Yumm Banhs, featuring Vietnamese street food with charcoal-barbecued meats.

SPORTS EXHIBITION: Fashion and performance

Celebrate Women in Sport at the Sports Exhibition with an afternoon of fashion and performance. The event will showcase vintage sportswear, an activewear fashion parade modelled by Newcastle Jets players, and Charlestown Square, retailers. Join Amelie Bourke, Phillipa Anderson, and Logan Dalton to discuss the opportunities for women in surfing and sports generally into the future.
