The temperature may have dropped, but Lake Mac has a month packed with some of the hottest events to hit the hunter this year.

From a circus rock tribute to David Bowie to a Rock Sloth Puppet Show. There’s something for everyone this July.

REBEL: A David Bowie circus rock tribute

Rebel is a glittering glam rock non-stop circus Bowie party! Strut right up to the Multi-Arts Pavilion mima for a night of glittering glam rock, phenomenal acrobatics and a heart-stopping sideshow. Rebel is a live rock and roll circus tribute to the original rebel, David Bowie.

Australian Haydn Ensemble – Beethoven’s Eroica

Australia’s world-class period ensemble returns to Lake Macquarie to perform three revolutionary symphonies in chamber form. Join us for the dramatic, exciting and ravishing performance of Beethoven’s Eroica by The Australian Haydn Ensemble – Australia’s leading historically informed orchestra and chamber music groups.

ART AND CULTURE

9 Squadron Rathmines Exhibition

Join us in remembering the 9 Squadron plane and all its crew who were lost with HMAS Sydney in November 1941 eighty years after their service and sacrifice at the original Rathmines Heritage Centre exhibition. Gold coin entry.

One foot on the ground, one foot in the water

This exhibition presents paintings, sculptures, installations and sound works, that challenge us to reckon with death and dying as an inherent part of life, invoking experiences of loss, impermanence, transience, remembrance, memorialisation and varied expressions of grief. Admission is free.

MAP mima NAIDOC multimedia art display

See an amazing multimedia display of artworks produced by local school students during workshops with respected Aboriginal artist Saretta Fielding. These artworks will inform designs that will be applied to the Fernleigh Awabakal Shared Track (FAST). Families can also enjoy artmaking activities in the grounds of MAP mima.

Life Drawing after hours with artist Sue Rosalind Vesely

Life Drawing after hours with Local artist Susan Vesely and a nude life model What a great way to start the week! Learn to draw the human form, exploring gesture, contour and proportion with a life model and a glass of wine.

Learn simple magic tricks at our hands-on magic workshop for kids. Join Joel from JD’s World of Magic, at his all-new magical activity. Learn simple magic tricks you can show your family and friends, and create magical crafts to take home. Suitable for ages 6 years plus.

Rock Sloth Puppet Show

Join Rock Sloth for a puppet show full of colour, a bit of magic, and lots of fun and silliness along the way. Come along for fun magic routines intertwined with appearances from our animal puppets. Be amazed by the balloon twisting, everyone will get to take a balloon creation home.

Sharing culture: NAIDOC Week Storytime

Celebrate NAIDOC week at our sharing culture Storytime. Join Elder Uncle Amos from Muurrung Marai where he will share Awabakal Language through song, dance and puppets. Suitable for ages 4-10 years. Please book a ticket for all children and adults attending.

Curious Kids: Fun School Holiday Experiments

Feed your children’s curious minds with fun easy-to-do experiments. Participants will get to take part in three separate experiments, which include slime making using household materials, creating their own sherbet and learning to do secret drawings and messages. All materials are supplied and suitable for kids between the ages of 6- 12.

Tech Play: Merge Cube – Charlestown

Learn through virtual reality! With the Merge Cube, you can hold virtual objects in your hand. Discover dinosaurs and fossils, the solar system, ancient artifacts plus much more in 3D. The Merge Cube lets you hold digital 3D objects, enabling an entirely new way to learn and interact with the digital world. Parents are encouraged to stay and play too.
