A little while ago, we put the call out for burgeoning junior journalists to throw their hat in the ring to be a correspondent for our new kid-focused section Live Junior.
Well, we were literally inundated with fantastic entries from this region’s up-and-coming content creators and after much deliberation, head-scratching we have found our first two Live Junior correspondents.
Please welcome Mia Kearney and Odette Mury to the team!
Mia is 12 years old and is currently in Year 6 at Newcastle Grammar while nine-year-old Odette attends Year 3 at Hunter Valley Grammar.
Both girls said they were excited about the opportunity to bring all the kid-related news that’s fit to print to the people of Newcastle.
Mia, whose interests include soccer, drama and singing, said that there was a lot to love about this town and was looking forward to bringing some local gems to light.
“The main thing I love about Newcastle is the number of opportunities I get here. Because it’s not huge and you can’t get around like in Sydney but it’s also not a small place with nothing to do,” Mia said.
“Newcastle is an awesome place and I just can’t wait to show off everything it has to offer for everybody.”
Echoing that sentiment, Odette, added that she was excited about getting out and about to explore more of the region as well as unearthing interesting stories from our community.
“I have a really big passion for writing, and I really want to put all of my creativity into this,” Odette said.
“I love Newcastle – the place and the people and I’m excited to tell people more and more about it.”
So what are Mia and Odette’s favourite things about Newcastle?
Well for Mia it’s the Sweet Traditions lolly shop at the Junction and for Odette, it’s grabbing some mouthwatering gelato and spending the day at the beach!
Watch this space for some great stories coming from Odette and Mia soon!
