We as Novocastrians would think of ourselves as a pretty friendly bunch, right?
Well, it seems as though that opinion is held further afield with travel blog Big7 Travel giving Newcastle a nod in its recent 25 Friendliest Cities and Towns in Australia piece.
The site went out to its more than 1 million followers asking the question and Newcastle came in at a respectable 23, behind Victoria’s Warnambool and melton respectively.
Despite there being many more than 25 cities in this wide brown land we call Australia, Big 7 Travel still saw fit to throw a bit of shade at the good people of Novocastria.
In their summation of our city they wrote: “Australia’s seventh-largest city is, unfortunately, one of its least friendly, according to Big 7 Travel readers.
“It might rank highly when it comes to surfing and an artsy scene, but when it comes to people it’s a different story. While locals aren’t rude, it’s more of a “polite but unfriendly” vibe.”
Well, we never!
At the end of the day, Perth topped the poll and perhaps somewhat ironically Maitland didn’t make the list at all.
Here’s the full list:
2. Coffs Harbour
7. Port Macquarie
12. Logan City
15. The Gold Coast
22. Alice Springs
