Wallsend is set to sparkle this Christmas with a dazzling display of lights
From 1 to 31 December, the town centre will light up with beautifully adorned Christmas trees creating the perfect atmosphere for families, couples, and visitors to soak in the festive spirit, enjoy a summer picnic or take a festive selfie.
A highlight of the event will take place on 1 December, when 30 lucky children, winners of a competition hosted in partnership with NEW FM, will enjoy a special Santa experience at the Rotunda.
Accompanied by Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and his cheerful helper, the children will engage in holiday games and have the chance to share their Christmas wishes with the big man himself.
And because it’s Christmas no child will leave empty-handed, as each will receive a small gift to take home.
“We invite locals to get involved from now until Dec 31 and take in the fabulous lights. They can take photos and post on socials to help spread the word about Wallsend and the joy and spirit of our community,” Wallsend Town Business Association Chair, Wayne Rogers said.
This festive kickoff also marks the culmination of a momentous year for Wallsend, which celebrated its 150th anniversary as a municipality in 2023. Reflecting on the year.
“This year has been full of wonderful activities celebrating Wallsend’s 150th.
“The collaboration with local community groups and the City of Newcastle has made this a very special and memorable year for our suburb.”
The Wallsend Rotunda’s light and decoration display is free to enjoy throughout December. To find out more visit facebook.com/wowwallsendtown.
