Very Popular Theatre Company’s Jersey Boys pushed to 2022

After postponing its production of Chess: The Musical in 2020, the Very Popular Theatre Company has been forced to reschedule another major musical.

The Newcastle company’s anticipated production of the hit musical Jersey Boys Originally slated to run from Friday 8 October to Saturday 23 October at the Civic Theatre, has been pushed back to 2022 due to the ongoing COVID situation in Greater Sydney and regional New South Wales.

“We’ve had to make the difficult decision to reschedule the Newcastle premiere season of Jersey Boys,” Very Popular Theatre Company Artistic Director Daniel Stoddart said.

“However, I’m pleased to announce that we have secured new dates in the Civic Theatre and programmed this event for our 2022 season. Our planned season 8-23 October 2021 will be rescheduled to 7-22 October 2022.”

The new dates are as follows:

Winner of Best Musical at both the Tony Awards and Olivier Awards, the musical biography that is Jersey Boys tells the tale of four scrappy young men from New Jersey – Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Nick Massi and Tommy DeVito – who find a magic sound that propels them from singing under streetlights to singing in spotlights all over the world.

Set in the 1960s, the show features hit after era-defining hits, including Oh What a Night, Sherry, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, Dawn, My Eyes Adored You and Walk Like a Man.
