Local four-piece Vacations have released a new song this week. ‘Moving Out’ is the first taste of their upcoming debut album, which is due out in the first half of 2018.
‘Moving Out’ exemplifies all the things that make Vacations of the the hottest up and coming acts in Newcastle today. It’s a song that screams Summer from every pore; drenched in reverb and chorus – the song openly invites you to dive right in and swim around.
It’s a song that feels effortless, but closer inspection shows the intricate cogs that make the clock move. Burns vocals croon through the song, delivering big hooks and experiences of suburban sharehouse living. The multi-layed guitars move seamlessly through each other, while the drums walk the tightrope between washy and in the pocket with ease.
This single follows on from the 2016 EP ‘Vibes’. Over the past year, Vacations have built a national and international following; with overseas record labels releasing limited cassette runs of their music, and their songs being streamed thousands of times around the world.
2018 is set to be an even bigger year for the band, they were recently announced as one of many Australian acts set to appear at SXSW Festival next year in Austin, Texas. Along with the release of their debut album, expect some serious touring – both locally and overseas.
Vacations are hitting the road in support of the new single, travelling to Sydney, Brisbane and Wollongong this December. They have also announced two special hometown shows to close out the year; an All Ages gig at The Commons (one of the last shows to be held in the venue), and an intimate affair at The Lock-Up on Hunter Street.
