Welcome to our first “Top 5 FREE gigs in Newcastle this weekend” post. Although we’ve been sharing our picks for the top 5 gigs of the week for some months now (a mix of both ticketed and free events), you guys have been really keen to see a list of just FREE events. So here it is!

His musical prowess is second to none and his career highlights include lead guitarist & singer of legendary Newcastle band ′The Slots′ as well as lead guitarist at The Hard Rock Cafe Dubai.

Hornet′s successful style is simple, combining infectious tunes that girls love to dance to, with in-you-face rock.They′ve headlined the Establishment in Sydney, sold out 8 consecutive nights during the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and toured with Midnight Oil, Divinyls, Hoodoo Gurus and Baby Animals, and in April 2008 Rod Stewart.

Matt has been caressing the ears of Novocastrians for the past 15 years with his dynamic performances and renowned for his virtuosic guitar ability. Matt Semmens has performed with many groups and ensembles over the years including Gosford Philharmonic String Ensemble, classical concerts, Catalina Jazz Band, Elephant Funk (jazz), local cover bands Scoota Boi, Quaan, Spook, Dynamite, Transit, Freestar and currently performs in his band FUNKY MUNKY.

The Years are a six-piece rock band dedicated to playing only the best rock hits from the 70s, ’80s, ’90s and today. Made up of ex-Baron members Leo Della Grotta, Lelio Rossi, Tony Rossi and Rick Di Mecola and former Night Shift lead singer Vera Francisci.

Sundays Record are Ben Travis, Chris English and Jae Nelson, a high energy, 3 piece pop band that delivers every time!, Sundays record have earned a great deal of praise from crowds and journalists alike. The band members varied individual influences are well represented in their live cover sets.
