Bella Howard wants to be a police officer when she grows up so she can chase baddies in her police car.

However, the Shoal Bay seven-year-old whose family describe her as a “sweet, beautiful and compassionate child who loves life, school, friends and family” is now facing a monumental struggle after being diagnosed, last week, with a brain stem tumour.

Bella was given a timeframe of three to 12 months however, the family managed to make contact with renowned brain surgeon Dr Charlie Teo who agreed to operate on Bella, in a procedure that took place this week and would, if successful prolong her life by decades.

However the Howard family need your help to pay for Bella’s surgery and dad Gene has set up a GoFundMe page to raise the necessary funds.

As a testament to the generous spirit of this part of the world, especially during uncertain times like these, the campaign has so far raised $82,125 (at the time of printing) of its $100,000 target.

“Out of nowhere, our little Bella has been diagnosed with a brain stem tumour. Her balance has already deteriorated. She has all the distinct symptoms of this type of condition. Our hearts sink,” Gene wrote on the campaign page.

He continued: “So donate what you can afford here so if successful she can get closer to catching the baddies and so she can spend longer working out all the magical ways in life’s lessons she can be smarter using her brain to beat the faster people.”

Head here to donate and for updates on Bella’s condition.
