THIRSTY? Celebrate International Beer Day with some local flavours!

Fans of the amber ale rejoice! International Beer Day is just around the corner.

Yep, that’s right. This glorious day will roll around on Friday 7 August and is the perfect time to gather (responsibly) with mates to espouse the awesomeness of beer, to give props to the legends involved in the production of beer and just generally revelling in the majesty of beer.

Given our love for beer in this neck of the woods, and the amount of producers who have helped but Newcastle and the Hunter on the craft beer map, we thought it prudent to highlight some of these brilliant breweries and their top tipples we’ll be keen to sample come International Beer Day!

Top Tipples: Foghorn’s Young Americans IPA is one of this writer’s favourite beers. Period. And not just because it’s the brewery’s tribute to the late, great David Bowie. It’s a heady, hoppy brew with refreshing citrus notes. Yum. This bad boy was awarded a gold medal at the 2017 Australian International Beer Awards and it’s not hard to see why.

Also recommended is the Newy Pale Ale and their refreshing German-inspired lager “Rowdy” Kellerbier.

Maltnhops Brewhaus

Top Tipples: Looking for a refreshing drop that strikes an almost perfect balance of hops, fruitiness and bitterness? You’d do well to add the Maltnhops Session Ale to your shopping list.

Their Pale Ale is also worth a look in and for the more ‘adventurous’ the Lemon Myrtle Sour is definitely the ticket. In fact, the whole range is good. Check it all out!

Grainfed Brewing Company

Top Tipples: Like all entries on this list, the entire Grainfed range is worth a sample, but for this palate, it is their two flagship brews that really stand out – The Sneaky One and the Well Red.

The former, a Newcastle Summer Ale is a definite frequent sipper that is as fresh as it is flavoursome while the latter, the new kid on the block, is replete with caramel and toffee notes and that coppery red hue is almost begging you to dive right in!

Murrays Craft Brewing Co

Top Tipples: When talking about Murray’s we just can’t go past one of the Bob’s Farm brewery’s mainstays – the Angry Man Pale Ale. This delightful drop is as punchy as the boxing kangaroo featured on the label and guaranteed to slake any thirst.

Also high on the recommendation list are the Murray’s XPA and the smooth, clean and refreshing Whale Ale

So, get out there and explore the cornucopia of quality that our many super talented local brewers are producing and celebrate International Beer Day in style.
