Not only have Coles been selling hot cross buns since Boxing Day, but the supermarket behemoth is also now doubling down on the sacriliciousness with their latest creation.
Boffins at Coles HQ have brought two icons together to create the ultimate bakery collab – the lamington hot cross bun!
Available from Wednesday 22 January, these limited edition treats are made with chocolate, studded with milk chocolate chips, toasted shaved coconut chunks and soft raspberry jellies.
These babies are the result of Coles market research which indicated 54 per cent of shoppers would love to, one day, tuck into this sweet treat.
“We’ve spent months fine-tuning the recipe to make sure we have the perfect flavour profile of a lamington in a hot cross bun using its traditional pairing of chocolate, coconut and raspberry,” Coles Senior Category Manager Freddie Hancock said.
And it seems Coles shoppers don’t give a tinker’s cuss about when hot cross buns should be available either, with more than 11 million of these traditional Easter treats walking out the door since Boxing Day!
“We know Australians love traditional products that have a nostalgic pull but with a modern-day twist – and we think we’ve got a winner here with our new lamington hot cross buns just in time for Australia Day,” Freddie added.
“…it’s important for us to have some fun with flavours and shake up the hot cross bun market to give customers something they’ve never had before, but ultimately it has to taste great.”
If you want to tuck into one of these bad boys, a four back will set you back $3,50.
