Christmas – ’tis the season of giving, right?

Well, that sentiment doesn’t just have to be about the giving of gifts. You don’t have to spend hours scouring malls looking for that ‘perfect pressie’ for that special someone, when the perfect gift may be with you all along.

So, in that spirit here are my top five tips to be kinder this Christmas.

Support local business

Yes, weโ€™re going to keep saying it because itโ€™s super-duper important, especially if we want to keep celebrating our amazingly diverse city that we call home! Our local businesses depend upon this time of year (especially with the whole Supercars cock-up punching a hole in the middle of it) so why not do your bit, to do your bit.

Ya know

Volunteer

There are so many different ways to volunteer this season!

Find a charity you love and a cause thatโ€™s close to your heart and do your bit to help do a lot. Every little bit counts, whether itโ€™s for an hour or a few days a week, itโ€™s up to you.

Weโ€™re all busy, sure, but as we said, every little bit counts.ย

Be kind to the planet

You only need to take a red hot look at the fact that our country is burning to know how important this one is. For real though, get your shit together and look after the planet.

Be kind to retail/hospitality workers

Seriously. They are working whilst youโ€™re having a good time and you have the audacity to think itโ€™s ok to call them an idiot because they took 30 seconds too long?

Have a heart you fool and check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Be patientย

With family, friends, co-workers, strangers, everybody.

Just take your time.

Know that everyone is in a rush, and we will all eventually get to where we are going. But letโ€™s be safe and respectful and letโ€™s get through this holiday season together.
