THE REAL THING IS BACK: Aussie icon Russell Morris brings his Black and Blue Heart to the Bay

Hot on the heels of the release of his 14th album Black And Blue Heart, no fooling Aussie rock icon Russell Morris is headed to our part of the world to give us a taste of the lauded slab.

With a career spanning an impressive 50 years, Russell is responsible for such Australian musical cornerstones as the ’70s psych extravaganza The Real Thing and the etherial Wings Of An Eagle.

More recently though, Russell wowed audiences with his critically acclaimed trilogy of blues-tinged platinum selling ARIA award-winning records – Sharkmouth (2012), Van Diemen’s Land (2014) and Red Dirt – Red Heart (2015)

Now the ARIA Hall Of Famer is back with Black And Blue Heart – an album that showcases an artist still at the top of his game.

This time around, Russel enlisted the services of Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning and production icon Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam) who oversaw production duties on the record.

He also assembled an impressive bad to bring these songs to life – namely Declan Kelly, former Wolfmother keyboardist Ian Peres, Matt Englebrecht on bass and Dan Kelly on guitar.

Bernard Fanning said that he and Nick knew this was a project they wanted t be a part of from the get-go.

“As soon as we heard the demos, the quality and grace of the songs was obvious immediately,” he said.

“It sounded to me like the kind of music only someone with Russell’s backstory could make. He’s always been renowned for his incredible voice but it’s really come into its own now. His tone just communicates this unique life experience, so we just had to get that down.”
