For chef Jeremy Lawicki, a passion for BBQ was ignited in his native Idaho in a little unassuming “hole in the wall.”
“I used to go to a roadhouse called Scrubby’s, just outside of Mountain Home Air Force Base,” Jeremy told Newcastle Live.
“It was just this little place but on Sunday they’d have pork ribs and everyone would go there and watch the football on the TV and they had a jukebox filled with country music.
“It was a stereotypical hole in the wall but when I think about BBQ that atmosphere I experienced is exactly what I want it to be about.”
Jeremy has brought his passion and talent to Texas BAR-B-Q Grill at Wests Mayfield and while his interest in barbecue was piqued a little further north, this eatery is all about the flavours and ‘larger-than-lifeness’ of the Lone Star state.
“The idea was for a smokehouse so we created a bunch of smoked meats and slow-cooked items and made them big,” Jeremy laughed.
He added that the restaurant was all about creating a sense of togetherness and a fun atmosphere for the whole family.
“The whole idea is big Texas-style. It’s family-friendly, big meals, you can bring everyone and just be happy,” he said.
“It’s not about the white tablecloth – it’s messy, it’s big, it’s all over the place, it’s fun.”
From the juicy, tender pork and beef ribs to the signature 18-hour slow-cooked ribeye steak and its fiery cousin The Rattlesteak as well as a wide range of pizzas burgers, and steak sandwiches, Texas BBQ Grill is definitely a meat lovers paradise
And when it comes to customer favourites, Jeremy didn’t have to think too long to pinpoint it.
“Definitely the pork ribs,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter what we put on them, they are just really really popular. We’re also doing quite well with our baby back beef ribs and as a chef that’s definitely my favourite.”
